Responsible gambling help
Gambling's only for adults, and it should only ever cost what you've set aside for it. If it's gone further than that, free help is one call away.
SA National Responsible Gambling Programme (toll free):
Age limit: 18+
Nobody under 18 may gamble. If children use your phone or laptop, sign out after each session and don't let the browser remember your password.
Tips for staying in control
- Think of it as paid entertainment, like a concert ticket. It won't work as an income.
- Choose a spending limit and a stop time before you log in.
- Bet only what you'd be fine never seeing again.
- Let losses go. Raising your bets to win them back usually digs the hole deeper.
- Stay away when you're angry, low or have had a few drinks.
- Don't let wagering targets push you past your plan. You can abandon a bonus at any time.
- Step away often, and make room for friends, family and other hobbies.
Warning signs of a gambling problem
- Sessions keep running longer or costing more than you planned.
- You've borrowed money, or dipped into bill money, to play.
- You get tense or short-tempered when you can't gamble.
- You keep your play secret from family or friends.
- You return again and again to recover what you lost.
Sound familiar, for you or for someone close to you? There's no need to wait for things to get worse. Ring 0800 006 008 and it won't cost you a cent.
Taking a break from the casino
Stop playing first. Then ask the casino which options it offers for limiting or closing your account. The helpline can also go through what to do next.
